Today, my mom’s engagement ring turned 50 years old.
She absolutely refused to take it out of her finger under any circumstances. For her, this meant committing a grave sin. There was even a time when we had to call a doctor to help her remove it because it caused her pain and turned her finger blue. Yet, she still refuses to move it or replace it with another one. In fact, it became an inseparable part of her body for half a century now.
Surprisingly, and against her will, she decided to sell it today so that she could buy four kilograms of flour for her children and grandchildren.
On her way to sell the ring, she kept touching it gently. She surrounded it with her other hand tightly and was walking as if she were attending a funeral. Tears were dropping heavily from her eyes.
