He was a student with a bright future, eyes full of hope and dreams of a better tomorrow. In Gaza, where the sky is often filled with smoke instead of stars, his dream was simple. He wanted to learn, to grow, to build a life, however, the war does not wait for dreams to blossom. His story ended shortly. His life was stolen from him before it started.
His mother, who once held him as a child, now watches other children with the same hopes grow. She looks at her son’s empty chair at the table. It is a silent reminder of a future erased. She prays for peace; for a day when no mother will have to bury her child, however, deep in her heart she knows the truth. In Gaza, sorrow and hope go together hand in hand.
“Here, dreams are fragile birds which are trapped in cages of concrete and conflict. It might sing, but freedom is a distant horizon.”
