Surprisingly, our washing machine worked today for the first time after two years. It was spinning and spinning. My eyes were going around in amazement and joy with it as if I, myself, have been washed inside.
It was cleaning the dirty laundry. I was crying and wondering how such simple details have disappeared from our lives! I looked at my blistered hands, worn from washing clothes by hand. I whispered to myself, “here in Gaza, we have lost everything.”
It was astonishing to see a washing machine working again in Gaza after two years of war. I feel like we are living in a parallel universe. We have regressed so far that we no longer understand or recognize technology, even though we once kept up with it before the war.
